16th European Lead Battery Conference and Exhibition
That was the week that was – 16ELBC
The lead battery industry is in rude health and buzzing with ideas and energy… no pun intended.
That was the overwhelming sense from delegates who attended the lead battery conference, 16ELBC, in Vienna.
What a week it was – from keynote addresses courtesy of big players such as Dave Shaffer to market forecasts and detailed updates on some of the cutting-edge research into lead battery innovation and performance from across the world.
More than a thousand visitors joined us for what many described as the best ELBC yet – and this on the thirtieth anniversary of the first event which took place in Paris in 1988.
As you can see from the photographs, the event and the spectacular gala dinner proved hugely popular.
And the scale of the information and knowledge sharing was another first, with more than 70 presentations, which we’ve made available to delegates.
So a big thank you to all who attended and we look forward to seeing you in Milan in 2020.
But there is a fly in the ointment. As delegates heard, Europe is facing a significant regulatory threat in the form of chemicals red tape being proposed by the European Commission which, not to put too fine a point on it, is the biggest threat to date facing lead battery manufacturing in Europe.
That is the scale of the challenge we now face and which we, together with Eurobat and other partners, are addressing with all of our collective weight and resources, in a bid to prevent a decision which could have such significant consequences.
And that is why I called on all those attending ELBC to join with us in helping persuade the EU against such draconian action and to look at alternative options. This is a battle for our future, and it’s a battle for a level-playing field for technologies such as ours which are vital to meeting the growing demand for rechargeable energy storage in Europe and worldwide. And it’s one we need to win.
Presentations from the event are now available at Euro 250. To order please contact Maura McDermott (firstname.lastname@example.org).
